Content Management System

By Deane Barker

A software system which automates the tasks around the management of content. A CMS assists editors in creating, organizing, controlling, securing, and ultimately delivering content.

Commonly abbreviated CMS.

A CMS is general to managing content, regardless of format or intended purpose. A web content management system (WCMS) is intended to manage website content specifically, though this is so common that “CMS” is used interchangeably and most uses of the term “CMS” are in reference to web content management systems.
