The Trap
TLDR: “Lightweight and fun, like the rest”
This is the third book in the Emma Makepeace collection. If you remember, she’s a secret agent of sorts in a shadowy British organization.
Like this other two, this is a fun novel. It’s not deep, but there’s a lot of good action and suspense, and it’s a nice way to pass time.
In this entry, something is planning an assassination attempt at the G7 Summit in Scotland, but they don’t know who is doing the planning or who their target is. It’s a tight timeframe of trying to figure out what’s happening before it actually happens.
There’s a callback to a prior character which extends the story of Emma’s personal life a bit. And a new character is introduced, which I figured was going to fall into Roger Ebert’s Law of the Economy of Characters, but… well, that’s a spoiler.
I noted that the author has written a book outside this canon since this one was published. I hope that doesn’t indicate they’ve moved on from the character.
These are fun novels. I’d like to keep reading them.
