I Might Regret This: Essays, Drawings, Vulnerabilities, and Other Stuff

Book review by Deane Barker tags: travel, comedy, essays

I bought this because (1) I loved Broad City, and (2) I have always wanted to drive across country.

This is a book of essays and personal reflections from Abbi Jacobson – one of the creators of Broad City while she decided to drive across the country, from New York to Los Angeles.

About a third of he way through, I was thinking it was a little trivial. She was just discussing random stuff, like her thought process when she tries to go to sleep.

But I wrote it off a little too soon. She gets deeper later, when she talks about the end of her first relationship with a woman, how Broad City got created, and some of her personal history. For sure, a lot of it is silly and meant to be funny – and she’s a big reflection of all our personal neuroses – but there’s some depth there.

It’s not a book that will change your life, but I don’t regret reading it.
