Conscience of a Conservative: A Rejection of Destructive Politics and a Return to Principle

Book review by Deane Barker tags: politics, conservative

I enjoyed this book, which is more of a rebuke of President Trump than anything else.

I agreed with most everything in it, and Flake makes his case well, though I don’t know what other purpose the book serves. I didn’t really learn anything new, except that there are Republicans who explicitly reject Trump while not bending on conservatism in general.

I guess the book confirmed what I suspected: the current brand of Republican politics is not conservatism in the classic sense, such as that of Goldwater (from whose book Flake borrows its title). This was more rah rah motivational than anything else.
