Smart Meter Initiatives Promise Retained Jobs

I stumbled across two articles today, both making the same claim about smart meters:

Out of Columbus, Ohio: AEP expects decision soon on smart meters

AEP Ohio expects a decision soon on its big smart meter expansion, although it will take years for them all to be installed. […] Meter readers at the company will transition to higher-tech jobs.

And from Coldwater, Michigan: AEP expects decision soon on smart meters

The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities will roll out a new water and electrical meter reading system this month […] This will allow the city to assign meter readers to other jobs and better allocate resources, Bauschard explained.

Remember that the utility workers union complains that these promises don’t turn out to be true.
