Imprecise term which can refer to:
- A content object, specifically in Drupal.
- A specific point in a tree structure, such as a content tree or taxonomy.
This usage seems to come from the usage of “node” in botany:
The part of a plant stem from which one or more leaves emerge, often forming a slight swelling or knob.
And the corresponding usage in geometry:
A point at which lines or pathways intersect or branch; a central or connecting point.
Two other usages in technology have nothing to do with CMS, but contribute to the ambiguity of the term.

- A piece of hardware attached to a network
