Jack McCall was hung for murder of ‘Wild Bill’ Hickok on March 1st 1877 at corner of State Hospital Grounds on US 81. He refused Protestant ministrations, but accepted those of Father Daxacher a Catholic priest and was buried in the Catholic cemetery. When his body was transferred to this cemetery it was discovered that he had been buried with the hangman’s noose still around his neck.
