This Is Water: Some Thoughts, Delivered on a Significant Occasion, about Living a Compassionate Life

Book review by Deane Barker tags: philosophy, society

This is simply the text of David Foster Wallace’s famed commencement speech given at Kenyon College a few years before he took his own life.

What’s interesting is the format – it’s a tiny book (the speech is fairly short), and each sentence is on it’s own page. Seriously – an entire page is each just one single sentence.

It’s a lovely format. Well-suited to the work. A nice meditative way to read the speech.
