Is 2 a prime number?

By Deane Barker

Yes, it is. It’s the only even number that is prime.

A prime number is any number only divisible by two other numbers. Since every number is automatically divisible by 1 and by itself, then prime numbers are numbers that are not divisible by anything else.

No other even number can be prime, since they’re all divisible by themselves, 1, and 2.

Why I Looked It Up

The reps in a workout at the gym were keyed to whether a dice roll was prime. It had the note:

Prime numbers are 2, 3, 5, 7, etc.

I immediately thought, “Two isn’t prime…” and then I was like “…is it?”
