The Mormons
Where did t
The group we commonly refer to as “The Mormons” is actually The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS). One of their holy books is “The Book of Mormon.”
So, calling them “The Mormons” is kind of like calling Protestants “The Bibles” or “The New Testaments.”
“Mormon” is claimed to be a person – a prophet and historian who lived in the 4th century in America. He is said to have collected and compiled the writings that eventually became known as The Book of Mormon in the mid-1800s and serves as the scriptual basis for the LDS church.
There doesn’t seem to be much evidence outside of The Book of Mormon that the man Mormon actually existed.
The phrase “Latter Day Saint” is meant to refer to a re-formation of the original church of Jesus Christ by “saints” in the modern (“latter”) day.
Why I Looked It Up
I just always wondered.
