Rebus

By Deane Barker

This is the usage of images to make a word or sentence when spoken phonetically or representationally.

For example, a picture of:

  • A human eye
  • A heart
  • The letter “u”

This would be interpreted as “I love you.”

Why I Looked It Up

I’m kind of kicking myself, because I knew what this was. I loved these when I was a kid.

However, I was doing the NYTimes mini-crossword, and it had button for “Rebus” which I still can’t figure out. It opens a dialog where you can edit the current character. I have no idea what this has to do with a rebus, but I’ll update it here when/if I find out.
