Prosaic

By Deane Barker

Definition: dull, ordinary

This is another word for “prose” as opposed to something more artistic like poetry or art.

Why I Looked It Up

In Life Lessons from Literature, when discussing Anna Karenina:

The trials and tribulations of Anna and Vronsky’s affair is contracted with the relationship between Kitty and Levin, which is noticeably more prosaic. However, Levin and Kitty work hard at their love and, through mutual respect, forge a partnership which endures and blossoms.

The bread and butter of thieves are the most prosaic cars, like Mr. Wilson’s Honda CR-V, or Ford F-150 trucks.
