Definition: to put something learned or theoretical into practical application

Why I Looked It Up

Theory and her earnest, helpful twin sister praxis, that was what I was after.

Also, when my wife took her South Dakota teaching certification course, it was called “The Praxis.” I suppose they mean that the test is a practical evaluation of theory? Otherwise, an artificial test like this seems to be the exact opposite of praxis.

Right after learning this, I used it in a sentence.

How do you make the leap from theory to praxis?

I was quite proud of this, but prior to learning the word, I would have simply said:

How do you make the leap from theory to practical application?

So, the word is basically shorthand for “practical application.”
