Pisco

By Deane Barker

A drink my wife ordered at The Fireside in Detroit Lake, Minnesota. (To be clear, this is a cocktail made with pisco, not the liquour all by itself.)

This is a South American liquor made from distilled grape juice.

Why I Looked It Up

My wife ordered a Pisco-based drink at a restaurant. We didn’t know what the liquor was.

There was some debate over how to pronounce it. I said “piss-CO,” while the server said “peace-CO.” Based on a couple of pronunciation guides I found, my version is correct (if a little crude-sounding).
