Definition: an English term for a large or important church

The name comes from an Old English word for “monastery,” and it technically requires that the church have a monastery, but has since been used to refer to churches without one.

Why I Looked It Up

I had known of Westminster Abbey, and the City of Westminster. However, I was watching a documentary and someone mentioned Yorkminster, which got me wondering about “minster” as a standalone term.
