Gizzard

By Deane Barker tags: food

This is an organ found in birds and some other creatures. It’s a type of “pre-stomach” that grinds food, since birds don’t have teeth. Some birds actually swallow stones which stay resident in their gizzards to help break food down.

They are prepared as food all around the world. They are a tough, muscular organ, and they supposedly have a taste similar to dark meat poultry.

Why I Looked It Up

A friend posted a picture of Facebook of some fried gizzards he made. I knew that gizzards were some type of…less desirable, meat, but I wasn’t sure what they were, exactly.

I am not happy that I looked this up.
