Bonded Leather

By Deane Barker

This is “reconstituted” leather. It’s leather that’s been shredded, then mixed with glue (and sometimes paper or rubber), and molded into textured sheets. It’s the leather equivalent of particle board.

Clearly, it’s not what most people would consider leather, and there’s some debate whether referred to it as “leather” at all is disingenuous.

Why I Looked It Up

A Bible I own prominently states it’s made of “bonded leather.” It seemed a little specific, so I looked it up.
