I ran into the term “bon vivant” in Monsters:

I was confronted with this idea when I watched an old documentary that Stephen Fry, the perpetually delightful actor and bon vivant (how rarely one gets to use that term with any accuracy!)…

The definition for “bon vivant” reads:

a sociable person who has cultivated and refined tastes especially with respect to food and drink

Sounds like the same thing. I ran both through a translator:

  • bon vivant is “good living”
  • bon viveur didn’t translate, but “viveur” itself translated as “vivacious”
