Banquette

By Deane Barker

Taken at The Baker, a boutique hotel in Little Rock, Arkansas

This is a bench, often padded, usually with a backrest, that is often used as seating at a table. They’re common in restaurants, and occasionally in homes. They’re often built into the wall.

The word is French for “small bench.”

Why I Looked It Up

I heard it mentioned on an episode of Archer as a place for seating in a nightclub. I didn’t think much of it, but I was in a meeting at a historical, boutique hotel when someone said they were going to “sit on the banquette.”

I took the picture at right, above.
