Narrative Fallacy
We try to combine a sequences of events into a cohesive narrative, adding causation and phantom interstitial events as necessary.
Aphorisms
“Don’t you see!? It all makes sense!!”
A common visual aphorism is someone standing in front of a bulletin board holding hundreds of random items with red string connecting them in a web of conspiracy, trying desperately to explain to everyone what they so obviously see. (See the "Pipe Silva” plotline from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.)
Examples
Since Donald Trump was elected, a group of conspiracy theorists believes that a mysterious informant named “Q” is revealing a “deep state” organization which is trying to bring down the Trump administration. The followers of Q have weaved miscellaneous events into a grand conspiracy narrative which led to things like a shooting at a Washington DC pizzeria.
