On Good Managers…
I have never managed anyone (well, once; briefly and poorly). I’ve specifically avoided it, in fact. I regret this.
My wife had a manager in her history that was foundational to her success, and she still speaks of this manager with great affection. I would like to be this for someone else someday, but I fear it might be too late.
To all the managers who have actively mentored, celebrated, and developed their staff, you likely hold a fond place in their memories, and that’s a wonderful place to be. Great managers build better people, not just better employees.
