Hacker News Posts About Web Development

Hacker News is great – it’s probably the site I look at the most on any given workday. But sometimes it gets really esoteric about weird stuff, while I usually just want to see posts about web development.

So, this page scrapes the Hacker News front page every 15 minutes, and extract posts containing any one of the following keywords:

Some notes:

• I check HN every 15 minutes. However, this normally only finds between zero and two posts per day.
• These keywords might change from time to time, but the posts below are persisted when first observed. So, if I change the keywords, it won’t retroactively search for new ones or delete old ones.
• Originally, I was just searching for text strings, but I was getting too many false positives (“astronaut”, “reaction”, etc.), so I now I search only for the whole word.
• If the filter catches something that’s not related to web development, I’ll manually delete it from the list, but probably not before it gets into the RSS feed.
• I vibe-coded this using ChatGPT. Originally, I didn’t write a line of JavaScript (just some Liquid), but that didn’t work great. So, in the end, I sort of “vibe-ish” coded it.
