This is an older post, but it resonated with me: always bet on text.

Text wins by a mile. Text is everything. My thoughts on this are quite absolute: text is the most powerful, useful, effective communication technology ever, period.

I totally agree. This is why I love Markdown – the source is in ASCII text, which is wildly compatible and self-sufficient. You can read it without processing, and it will be supported for as far into the tech future as we can see right now.
