12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos

Book review by Deane Barker tags: self-help, conservative

I don’t disagree with the author’s advice (the 12 rules themselves are just good common sense), but his writing style did not fit with me. He meanders, and tells stories that are way, way removed from the point he’s trying to make. There were multiple moments when I had to stop and try to figure out where the author was, what he was talking about, and how he got there.

The author is clearly a smart guy, and I know this book is popular, but I only got through about 3/4 of it. I finally had to stop reading, skim the rest, and read some reviews/summaries online. The storytelling got too much and was too removed from the point he was trying to make.
