Corvette License Plates

Some years ago – 2011, maybe? – Sioux Falls had a “Hot Summer Nights” event downtown for Corvette owners. I think there was something going on in Sturgis that meant a bunch of them were driving through the area.

My office was right there, so I walked around for a bit. It didn’t take long to notice that a lot of the license plates were vanity plates. This is apparently a thing with Corvette owners.

So, I starting taking pictures. You can see me reflected in a lot of the pictures – I was apparently wearing a green shirt.

I asked ChatGPT to read them all and give me its opinion about the average Corvette owner. This is what it said:

Confidence & Performance Pride

“NVERL8” suggests someone who takes status seriously – a Corvette owner confident in both their personal punctuality and the car’s speed. It’s about being on time and on target.

Playful Rebellion & Humor

“SHEH8IT” hints at a tongue-in-cheek, maybe cheekily rebellious sense of humor – perhaps poking fun at criticism or embracing a bit of troublemaking flair.

Youthful Nostalgia

“KIDZAGN” (“Kids again”) conveys a desire to recapture the freedom, excitement, or carefree energy of youth – rides aren’t just about speed, but reliving that feeling.

Overall, the vibe is of someone who:

  • Self‑confident: They like to make bold statements – whether about timeliness, performance, or driving prowess.
  • Witty & irreverent: Plays on words or edgy phrases show they don’t take themselves too seriously.
  • Nostalgic & fun-loving: They’re chasing youthful thrills, not just horsepower.
  • Proud & performance-focused: The vanity plate underscores their love for the Corvette’s capabilities.

At this show, Corvette owners seem to be a lively mix of the competitive, the nostalgic, and the mischievous – driven not just by torque curves but by the joy of making an impression, sharing a laugh, and embracing a bit of youthful rebellion behind the wheel.

That said, here are are all 119 of the license plates, in no particular order.
