Site of the diversion dam for the Rockerville Flume, 1880. Seventeen miles of wooden flume and ditch, capacity 2000 miners inches, connected Spring Creek with the placer mines at Rockerville. The Black Hills Placer Mining Company raised $300,000 for this notable engineering achievement which proved an economic failure. Estimators agree that half a million in gold was recovered in the Rockerville area. Vestiges of flume and ditch still are to be seen.”
