The Trading firm of Frost, Todd & Company had several posts along the Missouri. Some were really ‘lighting rods’ for townsites but the one here on James River was a real ‘trade store’ where trade goods and jimcracks were traded for furs to the Indians. Here also was Greenway’s Upper Ferry and it was attacked by Indians on September 6, 1862.
