General George A. Custer so liked this spot he called it Prospect Valley when his column camped here July 14, 1874. A month later, August 13th, they crossed their trail here and camped 3 miles down Valley Creek on their return to Fort Abraham Lincoln. June 29, 1877, Major LaSalle’s command, chasing Indians, camped here.
