The Secret of the Old Mill
My neighbor bought me this for my 50th birthday as a joke. Just to spite him, I read it.
It’s about what you would expect. It was written in 1962 and it shows. Lots of “fellows” and “chums” and “nifty.” Also, lots of exclamation points and adverbs. No one just “runs,” they always “run quickly!”
Every chapter seems to end on a cliffhanger. And the plot is never too much in doubt. Counterfeit bills keep turning up, and something weird is going on at the old mill. I made me wonder why they didn’t just bust in there with the cops and be done with it.
It’s a quick read. A fast reader could get through it in an hour.
I’m not rating this one, because it is what it is.
