A friend gave me this book after I expressed how much I loved From Strength to Strength. Both books talk about the same thing: how to have an effective “second half,” meaning middle age and what comes beyond.

I feel like From Strength to Strength is the much better book. This one is very heavily weighted to Christian faith, which is good, but gets repetitive. It’s tough to tell the chapters apart how any one of them said something different than any other one (they’re also very short chapters, which makes it hard to distinguish a point).

I do love that these books exist. I don’t think enough people talk about what comes after middle age, so I give it credit for that. Also, this book is maybe more strident about specifically planning for the second half.

I think it’s meant to read as a group study. The back of the book has lots of discussion questions and other material for that.
