There are a lot of “sophomore slumps” in television, but the second season of The Agency just knocked it out of the park.
The focus of Martian in this go-around is two-fold —
- To capture “Viking,” the American solider who turned traitor and is working with the Russian mercenary group Valhalla
- To free his lover, Samia, from her abduction by the Sudanese (or is it the Iranians?)
This intersects with Daniela’s undercover work in Iran, which was an unfulfilled subplot in season one. And of course, there are lots of politics in the CIA’s London office.
Lots of supporting players get bigger roles this time, especially John Magaro as novice operative Owen, who gets in way over his head.
Season three is supposedly in development, but there has been no official announcement. I do hope it happens, because the season ended on a hell of cliffhanger.
