Quote Abuse

I love this Flickr photo pool on quotation mark abuse. That’s when people put words in quotes that they really don’t have to. Like:

We’re here to “repair” your phone.

This is a “non-smoking” restaurant.

This drives me nuts, and I’m convinced that people do it when they’re somehow afraid of the word they’re quoting. By quoting the word, it makes them feel less stressed about — less like they’re taking a stand on something.
