About Deane Barker
If you’ve come here for information about Deane Barker in a professional capacity, you probably want:
- My professional profile at Blend Interactive
- My LinkedIn profile
- My tech blog at Gadgetopia
There are some links in the right sidebar for various social networks, but understand that I’m stingy with connections. I will only “friend” or “connect” on Facebook or LinkedIn if I have an actual connection with someone.
Otherwise, here are my personal and family details…
About Me and My Family
I’m a 40-year-old Web developer and content management consultant from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I’m a partner in Blend Interactive, a Web development firm.
I’m originally from Napier, New Zealand and immigrated on the day Elvis Presley died — August 16, 1977. I was six.
I spent eight years in California, and moved to Sioux Falls when I was 14. I will never leave. To steal a line from Ghosts of Mississippi, I don’t know when I’m going to heaven, but I’m leaving from Sioux Falls.
I’m married to my best friend, Annie. We have three beautiful kids, Alec (17), Gabrielle (10), and Isabella (7).
My older brother, Nigel, lives in Sioux Falls. My father lives in the Seattle area.
My amazing mother passed away in 2009.

Why Another Web Site?
My main persona on the Internet for the past six years has been via Gadgetopia — a tech blog with 7,000-ish posts and 20,000-ish comments. I try to keep Gadgetopia focused around tech, so I’m blogging here also to give me a place to talk about things that don’t have anything to do with the Net.
I have a Facebook account and a Twitter account which I also use regularly to post things. However, they both only allow 200 or so characters, so you can’t really blog in either, except in the micro sense.
The ultimate goal would be for this site to be a clearing house of “all things Deane Barker” — a centralized hub to whatever I’m doing on the Net. I have a vast dream of an uber-feed combining everything on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Gadgetopia, etc. all in one location, but that’s for another day.
